MMA Etiquette

  • We are family orientated gym and everyone is entitled to learn and train in a respectful, positive environment regardless of age, sex, ethnicity, etc.
  • We have a zero tolerance policy for any discrimination.
  • Students should always show respect and be polite to other students and instructors.
  • No profanity, obscene gestures and/or ill temper is allowed on Wesley Chapel MMA premises.
  • Please arrive on time. In the event you are late, don’t be a disruption and join class quietly.
  • Once class starts, students should pay attention, listen and be attentive during class. Students should not engage in idle chatter and side conversations.
  • If you have a question about a technique being demonstrated, please ask the instructor. We try and answer all questions, but the instructor may opt to defer some questions till after class.
  • Proper hygiene is a must for yourself and your workout gear. Our training, at times, can be close and personal, so students Gi’s and workout clothing must be odor free and in good repair. Instructors can deny training if certain hygiene levels aren’t met.
  • For everyone’s safety, keep finger and toe nails short.
  • Students must immediately report any injuries or skin conditions to instructors prior to class starting. If any injury occurs during class, stop training and notify an instructor.
  • No shoes or street clothes on the mat.
  • Students may not wear hats or jewelry on the mat. Wesley Chapel MMA is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items.
  • Tank tops and being shirtless are not allowed in the gym. We provide a changing room, so please come to the mat with appropriate attire.
  • BJJ Gi students must wear Gi top, bottom and belt.
  • No Gi classes require a shirt or rash guard.
  • Muay Thai students must wear appropriate shorts, workout tops and safety gear.
  • Wrestling students must wear appropriate singlets and other workout shorts, tops and safety gear.
  • While training and working on drills with another student, there is no need to use excessive force and strength. MMA is all about technique, so practice at a slower pace and you’ll get better faster.
  • Students must be cleared to roll and spar during open mat sessions, no exceptions.
  • If you can’t find someone to roll with, ask the instructor and they will get you a partner.
  • There is no need to roll hard and go 100%. You will more than likely get injured or injure someone and your training can be set back months.
  • Tap out! If someone catches you, tap out, reset and start over. If you catch someone and they don’t tap out, because they may not understand what’s about to happen or maybe pride is getting in the way, tap out for them. Under no circumstances should you finish a technique that will hurt or injure another student.
  • Every day we all strive to get a little better. If you have some experience and see someone struggling with a technique take a moment to show them how do it just like someone showed you.

The easiest way to try Jiu-Jitsu or Muay Thai and see why it's the most effective self-defense is to come in for a free class. Pick a day and time and register for a free class.
