History Lineage

Head instructor of Wesley Chapel MMA, Ryan Deichert, is a 3rd degree Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt.

Ryan Deichert was first introduced to Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1993. He was hanging out with a friend that had been studying BJJ for a while. Ryan had his first unofficial roll and he so impressed with BJJ he enrolled and started training in Philadelphia at the First Gracie Jiu-Jitsu association in America, which was the affiliate for proper Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction on the east coast. Ryan’s passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu continued and a couple years later he won his first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu tournament in the east coast.

Ryan moved to Los Angeles and trained at the Gracie Academy in Torrance, California. Where he trained with Royce Gracie, Rorian Gracie and Grandmaster Helio Gracie. Ryan had one goal and that was be one of the first Americans to become a black belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. While at the Gracie Academy, Ryan helped Royce Gracie train for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He also won several tournaments and in-house competitions and became respected by his peers.

After a few years of training, Ryan Deichert was accepted into the Gracie Academy’s teacher training program. Ryan spent the next 6 years studying and learning from Grandmaster Helio Gracie, Royce Gracie and Rorian Gracie to become a teacher in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. During his years at the Gracie Academy, Ryan trained with other with other well-known Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA champions in the Los Angeles area.

Ryan moved to Tampa, FL in 2003 and in 2008 opened Tampa Jiu-Jitsu. Ryan has always kept true to his Gracie roots and teaches the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu methods that were founded and taught to him by Grand Master Helio Gracie.

In 2008, Ryan Deichert received his black belt under Relson Gracie black belt Phil Migliarese. Before Phil Migliarese gives any student a black belt, they must be a black belt in self-defense techniques, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sport fighting, character and teaching.

In 2018, Ryan Deichert opens Wesley Chapel MMA, looking forward to passing along his learnings and knowledge of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

Currently, Ryan lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife and two kids. He is the head instructor at Tampa Jiu-Jitsu and Wesley Chapel MMA.
